About Me

Otago Taphophile
A taphophile is a "lover of cemeteries." Of course, there are many other aspects to my life but the stories to be found connected to epitaphs in local (and not so local) cemeteries have interested me for a while, and are now the basis of my business, which can be found at: https://darkestdunedin.co.nz/ The epitaph which inspired me to find the stories lies on the ground of Dunedin's Southern Cemetery and includes in its inscription the words "brutally murdered." I haven't covered this one as I write but it's one hell of a story. UPDATE Having reached 1500 stories, I will try and make this blog a little more searchable. I also note that many photos I've used from the Hocken collection are showing s completely different to the ones I uploaded. I assume this is due somehow to the recent additions to their collection.
