15633 Lance Corporal James Robertson, (1915-27/10/1942). "uneventful"

LANCE-CORPORAL J. ROBERTSON 

Advice has been received by Mr and Mrs James Robertson, Till street, Oamaru, that their son, Lance-corporal James Robertson, has died of wounds received on active service in the Middle East. He was born at Weston, and attended the Weston, Oamaru South, and Waitaki Boys' High Schools. For some time he followed farming pursuits, and was then employed at Taylor's Lime Works at Weston, later joining the Railways Department, from which he enlisted in the Fourth Reinforcements. He took part in the Libyan campaign last year. His brother, Private H. J. Robertson, has also been wounded in the Middle East.   -Otago Daily Times, 3/11/1942.

At the monthly meeting of the Weston School Committee a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of Lance-corporal James Robertson, who died of wounds while serving overseas.  -Otago Daily Times, 5/11/1942.


James Robertson died during the Battle of El Alamein, the breakthrough assault on German and Italian positions in North Africa.  October 27 was part of a time for the 24th (Auckland) Battalion described in its Official History as "comparatively uneventful."
