On Saturday afternoon Alfred Canning, residing at Green Island, dropped down dead while walking behind his cart at Green Island. It is supposed that deceased died from disease of the heart. -Evening Star, 12/6/1876.
We regret to have to record the death of Mr Alfred Canning, of Green Island, brother of Mr F. S. Canning, our Clutha agent and correspondent. Mr A. Canning's death took place suddenly on Saturday last. The deceased gentleman was only thirty-one years of age, and when last seen by his brother, on the 23rd of last month, was quite robust and hearty. -Bruce Herald, 13/6/1876.
The remains of the late Mr Alfred Canning will be interred to-morrow, Tuesday, in the Green Island cemetery. The cause of death is unknown. He was driving a dray near his home on Saturday, at about half-past two. He stopped the horse, immediately afterwards he suddenly fell down, and rolled over the bank on which he was standing. There will be no inquest. Deceased had been enjoying good health prior to his very sudden death. -Bruce Herald, 13/6/1876.
