Charlett McFadzien, (1838-24/12/1866). "sacred to the memory"

My usual "go to" source of blogging material, Papers Past (without which I would never have begun a blog) has nothing connected to the name of Charlett McFadzien.  But she needs to be spoken of.  From the dates on her stone, it looks very likely that Charlett died while giving birth to her daughter, Sarah Jane, who did not live for long.  A simple story, but full of tragedy for Charlett's loved ones.

Also buried with Charlett and Sarah Jane is Margaret Ellen McFadzien, who died in1867, aged 4.

Not long after beginning this blog I remarked to a wise female friend that I wasn't finding as many stories of women as I was of men. She said that women in those days had a dangerous job to do, which often killed them, and tended not to be reported in the newspapers.
