SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
BOROUGH EMPLOYEE INJURED.
A serious accident, the cause of which cannot be stated, owing to the victim being unable to throw any light on the circumstances, resulted in the driver of one of the Borough Council's heavy lorries being admitted late yesterday afternoon to Timaru Hospital, where he lies in a very serious condition.
The driver of the lorry, Mr Walter Williams, married, residing at 14 Butler Street, was proceeding along Grey Road towards North Street at 4.40 p.m. with a load of sand for bitumen work which is proceeding in the vicinity. It is understood that after he had passed a group of workmen near North Street, one of the group noticed the lorry turning towards the footpath with the rear left-hand wheel passing over the driver. Although nothing definite can be learned, it is believed that the driver was obliged to attend to a fault in the tip gear of the vehicle, and while he was engaged in this the lorry moved off, throwing him to the ground.
Dr. W. C. Burns rendered attention on the spot, and ordered Mr Williams's removal to Timaru Hospital, where he was found to be suffering from internal injuries of a very grave nature. -Timaru Herald, 23/3/1930.
The victim of an accident which occurred in North Street on Wednesday last, Mr Walter Williams, is reported to be making slow progress. -Timaru Herald, 2/4/1930.
