PRIVATE DON MELVILLE.
Private Donald Melville, who died in the Military Hospital at Featherston on Monday last from an attack of cerebrospinal meningitis, was the youngest son of Mrs Melville, of Maitland street. Up to the time he went into camp as a member of the 33rd Reinforcements he was employed by Messrs A. and T. Burt. A Dunedin boy, educated at the High Street School, "Don" was well known, first as a keen cricketer with the Dunedin Cricket Club, and later as an equally keen yachtsman with the Otago Yacht Club. He was always a "clean sport," and popular with his fellows. His brothers Andrew, John, and David have also been valued members of the Dunedin Cricket Club. Private Melville's funeral took place this afternoon, when he was buried with military honors. In addition to the firing party, a very large number of mourners followed the remains to the graveside. -Lyttelton Times, 10/11/1917.
