Florence Emily Newbury, (7/10/1872-11/6/1874). "delicate children"

We regret to say that other two children belonging to the immigrants recently arrived per Atrato have died since Wednesday. They formed part of the Otago contingent, which was landed at the Quarantine Island on the above day, and are both described as having been delicate children. One, named Florence Newbury, aged twenty months, died on Thursday night; the other, Emma Jones, aged two years, departed this life yesterday. We are not informed of the cause of death in either case, beyond the fact that the complaint, whatever it may have been, was not infectious. We cannot but regard these deaths as other than exceedingly disquieting, occurring as they have so very soon after the official assertion vouching the particularly healthy condition of the Otago contingent.  -Otago Daily Times, 13/6/1874.
