ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES

LAWRENCE, June 17.
An accident happened at the railway station between half-past twelve and one o'clock to-day to a porter named L. Jeffery. He was assisting in shunting operations when he was caught between an L.A wagon and the stage of the cattle-yard. The extent of his injuries is not yet known, but they are regarded as somewhat serious.  -Otago Daily Times, 18/6/1913.


FATALITIES

LAWRENCE, June 21. Lawrence Jeffery, the railway porter who met with a serious accident while shunting at the local station last Tuesday, died from the effects of his injuries at an early hour this morning. He was the fourth son of Mr George Jeffery, who has been in business at Lawrence as a stationer since the early digging days, and was a native of the town. Deceased, who was held in very high esteem, was 34 years of age, and leaves a wife and son of eight years of age.  -Otago Daily Times, 23/6/1913.
