A sad death occurred on Saturday afternoon, when Kenneth, seventh son of Mr and Mrs Robert Jones, Rosebank, Balclutha, passed away (writes our Clutha correspondent). The deceased was only 27 years old. He was a returned soldier, and like the majority of Mr and Mrs Jones’s sons, had had a most honourable career as a soldier in the Great War. He left in December, 1916, with the twentieth Expeditionary Force, and returned by the Tofua in May, 19th. His health was shattered during his service in Flanders. Mr and Mrs Jones sent five sons to the war, and this is the first break in the family. No fewer than six of the sons arrived at the week-end from different parts of the dominion, called thither at the news of their brother’s illness.   -Otago Daily Times, 11/6/1924.

Kenneth Jones died of tuberculosis, contracted during his time in the Army.
