We have to record with regret the death of Mr. Robert Patterson, (aged 46) of Cardrona, after a protracted and afflictive illness. The remains were escorted by a numerous cavalcade of horsemen from Cardrona to the Cromwell cemetery, where they were interred, the Rev. J. Jones reading the funeral service. Mr. Patterson was one of the earlier residents of Cardrona, and was well known throughout the district and deservedly respected. A number of gentlemen from Cromwell and the surrounding district met the procession about four miles from Cromwell, and joined the cortege. -Dunstan Times, 1/3/1872.
We regret to record the death of one of the oldest residents in Cardrona — Mr Robert Patterson. Deceased had been ailing for a considerable time past, and about four months ago took a trip for the benefit of his health. Since coming back Mr Patterson had gradually got worse, and although at times he appeared to improve, his decease was not altogether unlooked for. On Sunday last his illness took an unfavorable turn, and he passed quietly away on Monday morning. Deceased was buried on Wednesday in the Cromwell Cemetery. -Lake County Press, 1/3/1872.
