7/85 Trooper John McMillan, 5/5/1889-15/6/1916.

 

DEATHS. 

FOR KING AND COUNTRY.

McMILLAN.— On June 15th, at his mother's residence, 24 Lawrence street, Mornington (as the result of wounds received in action), John, beloved son of Margaret and the late William McMillan, of Waitahuna West; aged 24 years. He did his duty.  -Evening Star, 15/6/1916.



Below are details of John McMillan's medical history, copied from the Auckland Museum's "Online Cenotaph."  There is little more to be said about John's death, except that he suffered his eventually fatal wound in late August, 1915, during the furious fighting of the Allies' last attempt to regain the military initiative at Gallipoli.
