DEATH OF ASHBURTON MAN
Bullet Wound in Head
(P.A.) GORE, This Day.
A married man, Ivan Ross McLean (33), teacher, of Ashburton, who was on holiday at Pukerau, was last night found dead with a bullet wound in the head.
He had been staying with a brother-in-law, Mr Lennon James Miller, who discovered the body.
Deceased yesterday afternoon went shooting rabbits on the property of Mr T. L. MacDonald, M.P., with a .22 rifle, and last night he was found by Mr Miller lying dead beside a fence, with a bullet wound in the head. The rifle was lying across the body.
The late Mr McLean was general subjects assistant teacher at the Ashburton Technical High School, and had occupied the post for the past two years. He came here from Lawrence District High School where he was secondary subjects assistant. Mr McLean was married about six or seven years ago, but there are no children. -Ashburton Guardian, 17/5/1949.

McLEAN — On May 16, 1949 (accidentally killed), at Pukerau, Ivan Ross, dearly loved husband of Dorothy May McLean, of Ashburton; aged 34 years — The Funeral will leave our Chapel, 326 George street. To-morrow (Thursday), the 19th inst., at the conclusion of a Service commencing at 2 p.m. for the Anderson’s Bay Cemetery — R. McLean and Son, funeral directors. -Otago Daily Times, 18/5/1949.
