James McNaughton, (1871-4/12/1933). "thrown from his horse"

THROWN FROM A HORSE 

MAN FATALLY INJURED. 

An accident, which was attended with fatal results occurred on December 2, when Mr James McNaughton, who had been an employee of the Agricultural Department in Otautau, and also in Queenstown for some years, was thrown from his horse. His spine was seriously injured and he was taken to the Riverton Hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries the following Monday. The deceased, who was highly respected, was the eldest son of Mrs E. and the late Mr J. McNaughton, of North-East Valley. The remains were interred in the Anderson’s Bay Cemetery on Wednesday, December 6.  -Otago Daily Times, 12/12/1933.


Inquest 

An inquest touching the death of the late James McNaughton, who died at Wallace Hospital, as the result of injuries received through falling from a pony on Saturday at Otautau, was held before Mr E. C. Levvey, the coroner, at the Riverton Courthouse. A verdict in accordance with the medical testimony was returned — that deceased died as a result of injuries received to his back, by being thrown from a horse.  -Southland Times, 8/12/1933.
