GOING TO THE FRONT
At Messrs John Mill and Co.'s office on Friday night Mr Maurice Kennelly, yard foreman, who has been in the firm's employ for the past 20 years and is leaving for the front, was presented by his fellow employees with a wristlet watch (suitably inscribed), a soldier's outfit, and a purse of sovereigns, including a cheque from the firm. Mr Allen, in making the presentation, referred to the sterling qualities of Mr Kennelly. who, he hoped, would be spared to return to his duties in the near future. The firm had sent a lot of men to the front, and they had all "played the game," and he was sure Mr Kennelly would uphold this reputation. Mr Kennelly, who suitably replied, is the fourth member of the family on active service., and he has a younger brother who will be following him shortly. -otago Daily Times, 8/7/1918.
