3/1005 Lance Corporal William Garfield Clark, (1891-11/11/1918). "continuously on duty"


Lance-Corporal W. G. Clark, whose death occurred at Queen Mary's Convalescent Hospital, Hanmer Springs, on Monday, 11th inst., enlisted in the Ambulance section of the 5th Reinforcements. Owing to a serious illness in camp he did not leave New Zealand until the 7th Reinforcements. Since then he had been continuously on duty in Egypt, France, and England until his return to New Zealand six months ago. Since then he had been on the staff of Queen Mary's Hospital, Hanmer Springs, and while there contracted influenza and pneumonia. He was the eldest son of Mr S. Clark, Halswell. While on leave he married the youngest daughter of Mrs J. Weller, Eden street. Before enlisting lie was in the drapery department of the North Otago Farmers' Co-op.   -Oamaru Mail, 13/11/1918.


ROLL OF HONOR.

WEST. — On October 24th, 1918, died from wounds received in France on October 23rd, Private George West, 32nd Reinforcements, beloved grandson of James and Lucy West, Weston; aged 24 years. Deeply mourned. 

CLARK — On the 11th November, at Queen Mary's Hospital, Hanmer Springs, Lance-Corporal W. G. Clark, 5th Reinforcements, the dearly beloved husband of E. M. Clark, Eden street, and eldest son of S. and E. Clark, of Christchurch, aged 27 years. Deeply regretted. The Funeral will leave the Defence Hall, Oamaru, on Thursday, 14th inst., at 2.30 p.m for the Oamaru Cemetery. Friends are invited to kindly attend.
