OBITUARY
PILOT OFFICER G. H. BOYES
The death occurred in Wellington on Tuesday of Pilot Officer George Hunter Boyes. The deceased, who came to Dunedin from Invercargill, was educated at the John McGlashan College, later entering Knox College as a theological student and student at Otago University. In 1938 he graduated MA. with honours in philosophy, and was appointed demonstrator in psychology. He passed the MA. examination in education with honours two years later, and became assistant in the education department of the University, where he was engaged in the child guidance clinic. He carried out promising work in the scientific investigation of problems of educational psychology. He entered the army in 1942, later transferring to the Air Force, with which service he was doing important special work at the time of his death. Pilot Officer Boyes is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Lorna Faigan, an Otago University graduate, and two children. -Otago Daily Times, 3/6/1943.
There seems to be little more to be found regarding George Boyes, except that he took ill suddenly on a train between Rotorua and Wellington and died in Wellington Hospital. The "important special work" he was doing for the Air Force is reported to be psychological testing for the selection of aircrew, although he had passed pilot training himself.
