Robin Morton was fariming in the Tapanui area when he enlisted in the Air Force. He trained for in Canada - at the 7 RCAF Observer School, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba; 5 Bombing and Gunnery School, Dafoe, Saskatchewan; and 1 Air Navigation School, Rivers, Manitoba.
He then joined 18 Squadron, RAF, which had fought in France in 1940. He was on his fourth mission, a raid on an airfield in German-occupied France, when his Blenheim bomber failed to return. The Blenheim and crew were never found.
