Mr E. Oxenbury, of Totara, having joined the reinforcements for the front, has resolved to give up farming, and on Friday of next week the goodwill of his leasehold farm on the Totara Settlement, together with all the live and dead-stock, will be submitted to auction. The farm is a compact one, well provided with buildings, and should be sought after by those in search of a handy property. The spirit of patriotism displayed by Mr Oxenbury is deserving of high commendation. -Oamaru Mail, 5/8/1915.
Edwin Oxenbury was born in Victoria, Australia, and served with the Otago Regiment and was wounded twice in the field, then hospitalised for influenza in early 1918. At the end of the war he was awarded the Military Medal "for acts of gallantry in the field" - sadly, no information is available which described such gallantry.
