David Gilbertson, 1859-29/8/1880

A very sudden death occurred yesterday at the Port. David Gilbertson, a young man aged 21 years, was to all appearances in excellent health up to Saturday morning, when he went to his work as usual, but was shortly afterwards taken ill, and continued ailing during the day and through Saturday night. In the morning he suffered from what appeared to be slight fits, and at two p.m. he died. Dr Rogers had been sent for, but did not arrive until too late, and as no medical man was in attendance it was deemed necessary to hold an inquest, which was proceeding as we went to press. A post mortem exexamination was made by Dr Rogers, who found that the deceased died from angina pectoris caused by enlarged bronchial glands pressing on important parts of the chest. He had been suffering from a feverish cold for some days, but did not consider it of sufficient importance to call in professional advice.  -Nelson Evening Mail, 30/8/1880.
