Personal Items

The death of Mrs Edith Emily Skilton, wife of Mr Fred Skilton, of Aorere, Collingwood, which occurred at Nelson, removed one of Collingwood's most highly esteemed residents, states the "Golden Bay Times." Deceased, who was in her 55th vear, had been in ill-health for some time past. Born at Motueka the late Mrs Skilton was the third daughter of Mrs and the late Mr James Delaney, and lived in Ngatimoti for a number of years. She was married at Nelson in 1901 and with her husband moved to Collingwood, where she has resided ever since and was so well known for her uprightness of character and kindly actions. Her death will leave a gap in the district hard to fill. She took a keen interest in all social and church matters, and her faithful service will not soon be forgotten. There were no children of the marriage, but she leaves a sorrowing husband, a mother aged 87 years, and the following brothers and sisters: — Mesdames H. Thomason, Nelson; A. Robinson. Tahunanui; H. Mitton, Pokororo: F. Thomas, Nelson; W. Herrick. Takaka: and Messrs James Delany, Tahunanui; Bert Delany, Pokororo; Percy Delany, Aorere; and Moss Delany, Nelson. The funeral, which took place at the Nelson Cemetery, was largely attended, and included a number of relatives and friends from Collingwood who journeyed to Nelson to pay their last respects to deceased.  -Nelson Evening Mail, 2/4/1929.
