I do not know why it was that Frederick Moore joined the Australian Army rather than the New Zealand in the Great War. Information around the date of his death discloses that his Battalion, the 11th, had its first experience of combat in France on that day. A German artillery bombardment was followed by a raiding party and the Battalion lost 4 men taken prisoner, 37 killed and 70 wounded.
