ACCIDENTS
Mr Herbert Anscombe, eldest son of Mr & Mrs Anscombe of Clyde, met with a serious accident at Clydevale last week, as the result of an accident with a motor lorry. He is an inmate of the Balclutha Hospital, and we regret to say that his condition is serious. -Dunstan Times, 20/2/1939.

Driver Recovering
Herbert Anscombe, who was seriously injured when the heavy lorry he was driving ran off the road and crashed against a telephone pole in a paddock on the south side of Stony Creek on Wednesday night, is now progressing satisfactorily. -Otago Daily Times, 21/2/1939.
SUCCUMBED TO INJURIES.
Herbert Anscombe, a married man, who was seriously injured when the lorry which he was driving left the road near Stony Creek and crashed into a telegraph pole on February 15, died in the Balclutha Hospital yesterday afternoon. The deceased resided at Clydevale. -Evening Star, 24/2/1939.
FATAL LORRY ACCIDENT
An inquest was opened before Mr A. E. Russell, district coroner, to enable the burial to take place on Saturday at Balclutha of Herbert Anscombe, the driver of the lorry that crashed into a telephone pole in a paddock near Stony Creek on February 16, and who died in the Balclutha Hospital on Thursday afternoon, seven days after the accident. At the inquest only the evidence of Frederick Charles Nicol Anscombe, a brother of the deceased, was taken. Witness said the deceased was a married man, 29 years of age, and had been driving motor vehicles since he was 16.
The deceased leaves a widow and two little boys, aged three years and 13 months respectively. The inquest at the request of the police was adjourned sine die, and will not be resumed this week, owing to the absence of the district coroner. -Otago Daily Times, 27/2/1939.
