Samuel Mountford, (1912-2/8/1936). "we loved him"

 Tapanui OBITUARY

MR S. MOUNTFORD

Mr Samuel Mountford who died at Dunedin last Saturday, served in the Post and Telegraph Office at Tapanui in 1933 and 1934. He was then transferred to Heriot, remaining there till two weeks ago, when his annual leave was due. He had just been promoted and was on transfer to Fairlie on the completion of his leave. He had not been well and had been absent on sick leave, but had resumed duty. On Saturday after attending the football match and in the evening an amusement house, he retired to his hotel, apparently quite well, but was suddenly taken ill and rushed to hospital, passing away on Sunday morning at the early age of 25 years. He had been a member of the tennis and golf clubs and was also keen on swimming. Popular with all and especially fond of children, his sudden death came as a shock to his many friends and sincere sympathy is felt for his relatives. He was buried at Benhar, where his parents reside, on Wednesday afternoon.  -Southland Times, 14/8/1936.
