Personal. — News reached Balclutha on Saturday morning of the death at Cambridge of Private Richard Arbuthnott, jun., as the result of an accident. Private Arbuthnott was the only son of Mr and Mrs Arbuthnott, of North Balclutha, and was well known locally as a splendid type of young man. He was one of the foundation members of the Balclutha Miniature Rifle Club and one of the best shots in the club. He was also a member of the Kaitangata Defence Rifle Club and of the Balclutha Swimming Club, and was an enthusiastic angler. -Otago Daily Times, 3/11/1942.
FUNERAL NOTICES
LOYAL DALTON LODGE. — Members are respectfully requested to attend the Funeral of late Brother R. A. Arbuthnott, which will leave the Presbyterian Church, Balclutha, To-day, at 2.15 p.m. Members will assemble at the lodge-room at 2 p.m. H. H. Lyall, secretary. -Otago Daily Times, 4/11/1942.
Private Richard Arbuthnott, jun., who died in Cambridge Hospital as the result of an accident in a military camp, was buried from the Balclutha Presbyterian Church yesterday. The cortege was a large one, and included soldiers from a nearby camp and a strong contingent of the Balclutha Home Guard. Private Arbuthnott was buried with full military honours. -Otago Daily Times, 5/11/1942.
