DE VLETTER.— Gunner Louis Joseph De Vletter, son of J. S. De Vletter, Bloemfontein. South Africa; aged 26 years (No. 99721/15).   -Evening Star, 9/11/1918.


MILITARY FUNERAL. 

The Friends of LOUIS JOSEPH de VLETTER are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral, which will leave the Dunedin Hospital, Cumberland street, THIS DAY (MONDAY), November 11, at 2.30 p.m., for the Anderson's Bay Cemetery.

The remains of the late Gunner Louis Joseph de Vletter were accorded a military funeral yesterday afternoon. After being discharged from the British army, Gunner de Vletter came out to New Zealand, and did home service in the dominion. Developing some complaint, he was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital, where he died on Saturday. Gunner de Vletter served during the war in German West Africa. A party of returned soldiers acted as pall-bearers and also as a firing party at the grave at the Anderson's Bay Cemetery. The Rev. R. Scott Allan officiated at the grave. Captain Myers represented the military authorities.  -Otago Daily Times, 12/11/1918.


A letter has been received by Miss Jean Burt, hon. secretary of the Otago and Southland Women's Patriotic Association, from Mr J. S. De Vletter, of Bloemfontein, South Africa, asking her to convey to Miss M. Downie Stewart (president of the association) and those associated with her his gratitude for many kindnesses paid to his late son, Gunner Louis De Vletter, who returned from active service abroad and died in the Dunedin Hospital in October. He also thanked them for caring for his late son's grave and for placing wreaths on it.   -Otago Daily Times, 25/4/1919.
