The funeral of a young man named Sam Moon took place yesterday afternoon and was attended by a fair number of personal friends and acquaintances. The deceased was only 26 years of age, and arrived in Timaru from England about ten weeks ago for the good of his health, he being a sufferer from consumption, contracted during the last eighteen months. He tried the air of Burke’s Pass and Fairlie, but getting no benefit returned to Timaru to his friend, Mr Robert Wraith, Barnard street, a close personal friend of his father’s, Mr Isaac Moon, of the firm of Abraham Moon and Sons, Woollen Manufacturers, Netherfield Mills, Guiseley, Leeds, Yorkshire, but notwithstanding the best medical advice nothing could save his life. The deceased young man was a captain in the C Company, Skipton Division of West Riding (Yorkshire) Volunteers. Mr Smith and his family were true friends to him during his visit and sad ending in this colony. The local Volunteers sent a letter of sympathy.  -South Canterbury Times, 19/4/1899.
