Doris Wright, 1912-9/12/1932.

A distressing accident occurred at Crown Terrace, Queenstown, on Monday morning of last week, resulting in the subsequent death of Miss Doris Wright, aged 20 years, who had been employed as housekeeper for Mr W. H. Thompson, “Royalburn.” Miss Wright was preparing to do the washing, and while attending to the copper her dress caught fire. Her clothes were almost completely burned off her before she was able to subdue the flames. The unfortunate girl received severe burns on the body, and in her endeavours to tear off her burning clothes her hands were badly burned. Her face and head escaped injury. Although suffering terrible injuries, Miss Wright telephoned neighbours, who were quickly on the scene. They rendered first aid until the arrival of Dr Ferguson. Miss Wright was taken to the Lake County Hospital, where, although everything possible was done, she passed away on Friday evening. Miss Wright was the second daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Wright, of Riversdale.    -Southland Times, 16/12/1932.
