Captain James Heron, (1826-6/8/1877). "favorably known"


Mr James Heron, late Harbor-master at Okarito, died at the Hokitika Hospital yesterday. Captain Heron has been long and favorably known on this Coast and also in Otago. For the past year or two he has been an inmate of the Hospital, where he has suffered a severe and protracted illness. His funeral takes place at three o'clock to-day. He leaves a widow and young family.  -West Coast Times, 7/8/1877.


The funeral of the late Captain Heron took place yesterday afternoon. The remains were followed to the cemetery by a large number of Freemasons, of which fraternity the deceased was a member. During the day the flags of the various vessels in port were at half mast.   -West Coast times, 17/8/1877.
