THE Friends of JAMES and SOPHIA HOLMES are respectfully invited to follow the remains of their late DAUGHTER, Rose, to the Cemetery. The Funeral to move from their residence, North ftevell Street, TO-MORROW (Sunday) AFTERNOON, at half-past 2, and All Saints' Church at 3 o'clock. SINCLAIR & JACK, Undertakers.  -West Coast Times, 2/1/1886.

The funeral of Miss Rose Holmes, aged 15 years, daughter of Mr James Holmes, which took place at Hokitika yesterday afternoon, was most numerously attended. The Times states that the cortege left her father’s residence at half-past two o’clock and proceeded to All Saints Church, where the opening portion of the service was performed. The procession then reformed and went to the cemetery. Immediately following the chief mourners were some little boys, comprising the young lady’s class in the Sunday School, and behind them about a hundred Sunday Schoolchildren. The attendance of the general public was very large, about 250 following the hearse, thus evincing the respect entertained for Mr and Mrs Holmes, and the sympathy felt for them in their bereavement. Arriving at the cemetery, the concluding portion of the Church of England burial service was read by the Rev. H. G. Gould. The coffin was covered with wreaths and crosses of white flowers, sent as a token of respect to the amiable qualities of the deceased. The young lady had already become identified with All Saints Church and Sunday School, and next Sunday she was to have entered upon her new duties as organist.  -Kumara Times, 4/1/1886.
