13/2596 L/corporal James Mill, 20/1/1877-23/7/1920.

James Mill enlisted in the Auckland Mounted Rifles in August, 1915, and joined the 15th Company of the Imperial Camel Corps which was drawn from the NZ Mounted Rifles.

He spent a lot of time unable to serve due to chronic lumbago and rheumatism and was also wounded in action in the Second Battle of Gaza in 1917.  He was eventually discharged as unfit in February, 1919.

He died of "self-inflicted wounds whilst of unsound mind" in 1920.

MILL. — On Friday, July 23rd, 1920, at Whakatane, James Mill (late 15th Co. Imperial Camel Corps): aged 50 years, youngest son of the late William Mill, Dunedin.   -Evening Star, 24/7/1920.
