PERSONAL.

Lieut. Cecil Davidson, who recently returned from the front, is expected to visit Clyde this week. “Pog” is a general favourite, and his many friends will be pleased to see him again.   -Dunstan Times, 29/9/1919.

Personal

Clyde folk had the pleasure of giving a hearty welcome to Lieut. Cecil Davidson on Friday night. This young officer, though he has resided in Dunedin for some few years, is a native of Clyde, and residents of the place still look upon him as one of their own. He is too a general favourite. Under these circumstances is was not surprising that he should be accorded a welcome on his arrival. Mr Jno. Smart, as usual, made a suitable and stirring address, and the crowd cheered lustily. Lieut. Davidson, in returning thanks for the reception given him, remarked that he always looked upon Clyde as his home, and he was very pleased to visit the place again. We arc pleased to say that “Pog” (as he is familiarly known) is looking very well. Lieut. Davidson is accompanied by his mother.   -Dunstan Times, 20/10/1919.

One of the best-known of the Rugby footballers of Otago passed away in hospital yesterday at the early age of 36 years in the person of Cecil George Davidson, popularly known to his mates of the Zingari-Richmond Club as ‘‘Pog" Davidson. Deceased, who was employed as auctioneer by Messrs Todd Bros., was at work till about a week ago, when a complaint from which he had suffered for some time necessitated his entry into hospital. He was a member of the Zingari Club for over fifteen years, and was held in very high respect by members and officials of the club, as well as by other clubs and the football public generally. From 1913 to 1921 he represented Otago on thirteen occasions, and in 1920 was a member of the South Island team. Deceased served abroad with the Expeditionary Force, and returned with the rank of lieutenant. He resided with his people at Green Island until his marriage, when he removed to Anderson Bay. While at Green Island he took a keen interest in returned soldier matters, and was chairman of the local committee. He leaves a wife and one child.   -Evening Star, 28/2/1925.
