TIMARU, April 21.
William Fitzgerald, a builder's labourer, an experienced man, was one of a party engaged in pulling down the old Grosvenor Hotel this afternoon. He was standing on top of a brick wall, when it gave way under him, and he fell head-first on the hard footpath, and died shortly after. Deceased was an old resident, and father of a large family. On Saturday last, he saw the fourth of his sons off to Trentham. -Press, 22/4/1915.
ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
(PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATIOJN) TIMARU, April 22. At the inquest on the body or William Fitzgerald, who fell from a parapet of the Grosvenor Hotel, the evidence showed that the workmen had been specially warned to be careful. The deceased, evidently in a moment of forgetfulness, put his left foot on some crumbling brickwork, and it gave way. He fell 30ft, sustaining a compound fracture of the skull. A verdict of accidental death was returned. -Otago Daily Times, 23/4/1915.
