He was very interested in sport, being a very good runner and he also took a keen interest in racing, being the owner of Dandy, a trotter which he raced on many occasions at local meetings. There were eleven children of the marriage, eight of whom are living. The daughters are Mesdames N. Johnston, J. Henderson, M. Sharp (Heriot), G. Sanders (Waitiri), and the sons are Messrs Edward, Ernest and David, all of Arrowtown, and Charles, of Frankton, Mr William Thompson is a brother and his other brother, Albert, predeceased, him a few years ago. There are 31 grand children and 16 great grand children. The funeral took place at Arrowtown on Sunday afternoon and was very largely attended by relatives and friends from all parts of the district.
