Very sad circumstances surround the death of Mr James Paterson, of Mataura, which took place at the Lake County Hospital, Frankton, on Monday (says the "Lake Wakatipu Mail) Deceased and his bride arrived in Queenstown on the 16th inst. for the purpose of spending their honeymoon in the district. On the Monday following Mr Paterson went "down" with influenza, but it was not until Friday that medical aid was sought. On Saturday evening/it was found that pneumonia had supervened, and his immediate removal to the hospital was ordered. The unfortunate man, however, succumbed to the fell disease. Deceased, who was a ploughman, was 43 years of age. Before he took up residence in Mataura he lived in Ashburton. He had not long returned from camp, where he had been for two years. -Press, 30/11/1918.
