Isabella (1872-11/10/1899) and John James (1897-27/1/1902) Henderson, 11/10/1899. "a more than unusually sd death"

Death. — A more than usually sad death occurred at Macetown on Wednesday morning last, when the wife of Mr John Henderson expired, after having given birth to a child. Mr and Mrs Henderson were married only three years ago, and besides the new-born infant, which is in perfect health, there are twins still infants, so that Mr Henderson has to provide for three young children not able to take care of themselves. The most heartfelt sympathy is extended to Mr Henderson, who is universally respected, in the great trial that has come upon him.  -Otago Daily Times, 20/10/1899.

A distressing fatality occurred at Lower Shotover on Monday last. From what we can gather, one of Mr Hansen’s sons had been out shooting, and on returning home omitted to remove a cartridge from his pea-rifle. On Monday afternoon he went to his bedroom, and was followed by his little nephew, aged 4, the son of Mr John Henderson, of Macetown. The little chap saw the rifle hanging above the bed. He reached forward and got it down thinking young Hansen wanted it. Immediately Hansen saw the rifle in the child’s hand he made a grab for it, but in doing so accidentally pulled the trigger. The bullet went through the little fellow’s spine, and he died half-an-hour afterwards. We deeply sympathise with Mr John Henderson and the Hansen family in the sad loss of the line little boy.   -Lake County Press, 30/1/1902.
