PERSONAL.

A memorial service will be conducted in the Methodist Church, Carluke, on Sunday, October 3rd, at 2 p.m., to the memory of the late William Neal, recently killed at the Dardanelles. The preacher will be Mr T. Flower, of Havelock.  -Pelorus Guardian and Miner's Advocate, 28/9/1915.

IN THE TRENCHES AT THE DARDANELLES. 

In a letter to Mr W. H. Smith, written from somewhere on the Gallipoli Peninsula, Gunner Eli Wells writes: “I have been on the Peninsular since April 25th — the day we forced a landing — and I have seen some fighting and killed a good number of Turks with machine gun and rifle...

...William Neal, Carluke, was a good fellow, a good shot, and a brave fighter. He was shot in action and his brother Percy wounded...  -Pelorous Guardian and Miners Advocate, 26/10/1915.
