Gunner Frank Seth-Smith McKenzie, 13th N.Z.F.A., who died on Saturday, was the youngest son of Mrs S. McKenzie, Waiareka Junction. He saw two and a-half years' service on the Western front, was twice gassed, and had trench fever. Invalided home in May, he was on a visit to Southland when he succumbed to the epidemic. Prior to enlisting he was employed by Mr F. Baxter, of Oamaru, as signwriter and decorator. Of sterling integrity and openness of disposition, many friends here will mourn his death. -Oamaru Mail, 25/11/1918.
The epidemic referred to is the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918-1919.
SOLDIERS' DEATHS
