8/1075 Private Thomas Fraser, (27/4/1892-22/11/1918). "on the march"

Thomas Fraser enlisted for service in October, 1914. He served at Gallipoli and was hospitalised in Cairo with a twisted knee which occurred "on the march."  He was repatriated on the "Willochra" at the end of 1915 and discharged as medically unfit due to recurring synovitis - an inflammation of the synovial membrane which lines moving joints of the limbs. he was assessed as having a 25% disability.

Thomas Fraser died in Dunedin Hospital of influenza, during the 1918 epidemic.

FRASER. — On November 22nd, 1918, at Dunedin Hospital, 8/1075 Private Thomas Fraser (N.Z.E.F., Main Body, Gallipoli), dearly beloved husband of Jean Fraser, 26 Macandrew Road, Dunedin, and second son of Jane, and the late John Fraser, Reed Street, Oamaru; aged 26 years. Private interment.

In Saturday’s issue we reported that two military funerals had taken place that day. There was a third on Saturday, Private Rodger Heath (20 years) being interred at Anderson Bay. His relatives reside at Karitani. The Rev. H. Scott Allan conducted the service. Yesterday Private Thomas Fraser (26 years), whose mother resides at Oamaru, was laid to rest at Anderson Bay, the Rev. Father Ardagh reading the burial service. Captain Myers represented the staff at all these funerals. Three more are arranged for to-morrow.  -Evening Star, 25/11/1918.
