A SOLDIER'S DEATH
CORONER'S INQUEST
Mr E. G. Eton, District Coroner, held an inquest yesterday into the circumstances attending the death of Private David Flett, of the 28th Reinforcements. The evidence showed that deceased was marching with his company near Tauherenikau when he suddenly, drew a razor and inflicted a fearful gash in his throat. An officer seized his arm, but was too late to prevent fatal consequences. The deceased, who was about thirty years of age, came from Oamaru. He was of a despondent disposition, and had latterly been very morose. The Coroner returned a verdict that deceased had committed suicide while temporarily insane. -Wairarapa Age, 9/7/1917.
