Old residents of South Westland will regret to learn that Thomas Ryan, a son of the late Edward Ryan, storekeeper at Gillespies, who some time ago was brought up to the Westland Hospital with a diseased foot, which after a time had to be amputated, died at the Ross Hospital this morning. Three weeks ago he was brought up suffering from consumption, and, despite all medical skill, succumbed from the effects of this dreaded disease. — Kumara Times. -Grey River Argus, 5/7/1900.
