Alexander Officer, (1843-29/4/1894). "of the Antarctic expedition"

 

NOTICE OF APPLICATION TO REMOVE A LICENSE TO OTHER PREMISES

I, ALEXANDER OFFICER, of Dunkeld, being the holder of a Publican's License in respect of the house and premises situate at Dunkeld and known by the sign of the "Duke of Edinburgh Hotel," do hereby givre notice that I desire to obtain and will, at the next licensing meeting to be holden at Dunkeld on the 9th December, 1884, apply for the Removal of the license from the aforesaid house and premises to a house situate at Kelso.

At the next Tapanui Races Mr Alexander Officer, of Kelso, will give a silver cup, to be run for by the progeny of his thoroughbred, Ike.   -Press, 24/3/1890.


The Courier reports that at the Tlapanui J.P. Court on Friday last Alexander Officer, of Kelso, was charged with lunacy. Informant gave evidence to the effect that he was frightened of accused - be used horrible language, and threatened her life. He had been in a lunatic asylum for three months. He represented that he had a lease of the Snares island, and he professed to be the leader of the Antarctic expedition. Dr Trotter gave evidence that Officer professed to be the leader of the Antarctic expedition. He considered him insane; temporarily at any rate. He was in a state of chronic delirium tremens. Dr de Lautour gave evidence to the effect that the accused had become temporarily insane through drink. Without calling any further evidence, accused was committed to Seacliff Asylum.   -Mataura Ensign, 29/12/1893.


F U N E R A L  N O T I C E. 

The Friends of the late Mr ALEXANDER OFFICER, of Kelso, are respectfully requested to attend his Funeral, which will leave the Railway Station, Waitati, on WEDNESDAY NEXT, the 2nd May, at 1 o'clock pm,. for interment at the Waitati Cemetery.   -Otago Daily Times, 30/4/1894.


DEATHS

Officer. —  On the 28th April, Alexander Officer, of Kelso, second son of the late James Officer (late of Montrose, Scotland); aged 51 years. Deeply regretted. -Otago Witness, 3/5/1894.
