Mr Hugh Holmes, foreman at the Westport Coal Company’s screens, Denniston, was, about 6 o'clock on Friday afternoon, run over by a truck and killed. Mr. Holmes, who was an old resident of Denniston, was 70 years of age, and a married man without a family. The accident occurred in a simple manner. Mr. Holmes had finished his shift and was coming down from the bins, when he was struck by the railway truck. He died before reaching the surgery. -Greymouth Evening Star, 20/11/1916.
