At the last Miners’ Union meeting resolutions of condolence were passed, the members standing in silence, in connection with the death of Mrs F. Nelson (late secretary Burnett’s Face Labour Party), Private J. Clark (killed on active service in Crete), and the late Mr Wm. McCubbin, life member of the Denniston Miners’ Union.  -Grey River Argus, 10/7/1941.

The funeral of Mrs Bessie Nelson took place at Waimangaroa Cemetery yesterday. The Womens Branch of the Labour Party formed a guard of honour at the residence and at the graveside. There was also a large number of friends and relatives present. Mr Davis held services at the residence, Denniston, and at the cemetery. The pallbearers were W McDonald. R. Cumming, R. Kerr and T Alexander. A wealth of floral tributes bore eloquent testimony to the high esteem in which the late Mrs Nelson was held.  -Grey River Argus, 25/6/1941.
